FAQs
Questions people ask before they book.
If yours is not here, get in touch. There is no such thing as a silly question about starting therapy.
What are your session fees?
Our therapists have different training, experience, and areas of focus, so fees vary by therapist. You can see each therapist’s current fees in the booking website. If you’re unsure who might be the best fit for your needs and budget, you’re welcome to contact us and we can help you decide.
How long is a typical counselling session?
Most standard sessions are 50 minutes long, allowing for 10 minutes of administrative work by the therapist. Longer sessions can be arranged upon request.
What can I expect in the first session?
In your first session, we’ll spend time getting to know you and what brought you to counselling. Your therapist will ask some gentle questions about your history, current concerns, and what you’re hoping will feel different. There’s no pressure to share anything before you’re ready. Together, you’ll talk about goals, answer any questions you have, and decide on next steps at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
How often will we meet and for how long?
Session frequency can be flexible and is something you and your therapist will decide together. Many people start with weekly sessions, then move to bi-weekly or monthly as they begin to feel more supported and stable. Each standard session is about 50 minutes. We’ll check in regularly about how often you’d like to meet and adjust as your needs change.
Are your services covered by insurance?
Many extended health benefits plans cover Registered Psychotherapists and Registered Social Workers, but coverage can vary. Please check your plan details and discuss with your therapist whether they are approved by your insurance provider. We’re happy to provide receipts with all the information you need for reimbursement. Child life sessions with Kayla are not psychotherapy and most plans do not reimburse them; whether a plan covers supervised sessions with our graduate student intern depends on the plan.
What is your cancellation policy?
Your appointment time is reserved especially for you. If you need to cancel or reschedule, we kindly ask for at least 24 hours’ notice so we can offer the time to someone else. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice may be subject to a cancellation fee.
Do I need a referral?
No. In Ontario you can book directly with a Registered Psychotherapist or Registered Social Worker. Some extended health plans ask for a doctor’s note before they reimburse, so it is worth checking your plan.
Can we meet by video or phone?
Yes. Every psychotherapy service except group therapy is available by secure video or by phone to anyone in Ontario. Choose the video or phone option when you book.
Which location should I choose?
St. Catharines is our main office on Martindale Road, where the whole team works. Fort Erie sessions are with Nina. If you are unsure, choose whichever is easier to get to, or book a video session.
